Meet Me Under the Green Umbrella at Pike's

Meet Me Under the Green Umbrella at Pike's
Oil on 5"x7" canvas panel

Now you know why I do not do many cityscapes. I took an urban plein air workshop at South End Charlotte a couple months ago. I had started this painting and put it aside. I picked it up yesterday determined to finish it. I do NOT like it. I really should stick with landscapes and flowers. Why? I abhor straight lines and perspective drawing. Too confining! If I took this in for a critique, the analysis would begin with my lines. I use all kinds of methods to make it look realistically comfortable BUT it just is not in me. I seek peace, harmony and happiness in my art and managed to find it within all this mess. I cropped it out below. Another painting?

Poppy at Williamsburg Nursery

Poppy at Williamsburg Nursery
Acrylics on 6"x6" Wood Cradle

I recently visited colonial Williamsburg. It was so lovely with all the gardens full of all kinds of flowers. As I walked down Duke of Gloucester Street, I found the source for all the florals... the local nursery. The flower that took the show for me was the poppy. All the other flowers were just back up singers. Must be the bright red color.

In Memory of Monkey

In Memory of Monkey
Acrylics on 12"x6"x1.5" stretched canvas

I was in the process of painting this boxer from a photo when my sister informed me that Monkey, my subject, had passed away. That put additional pressure on me while doing this portrait. My hope is Kylie, the owner, will draw good memories and comfort when she looks at this portrait of her old friend, Monkey.
