SouthEnd Water Tower Charlotte, NC

SouthEnd Water Tower Charlotte, NC
Oil on 6"x8" flat canvas board

This is from a workshop I went to last Thursday called Southend Landscapes with Jean Cauthen. Love the location and the class and the instructor. With this lesson we concentrated on light and shadows. Jean told me to leave it alone and not change a thing at home. Very hard for me but I did smudge the top left corner of the tower to create a lost edge.

Delicate Tree Among Flowers
Oil on 6"x8" flat canvas board

This was done last week with my Plein Air Buds at Glencairn Gardens in Rock Hill, SC. Didn't know there would be hundreds of kids with us for lunch. They had a special event going on at the same time. No matter. We just headed for the other side of the park... with other peace seekers.

This is a picture of my sister's friend's dog. I will be painting it and thought I'd do a practice one first.

Spring Day at the Park

Spring Day at the Park
Acrylics on 5"x5" Arches paper

I did not get enough of the azaleas. I do love them and did this quick work to remember my Saturday at the park. This is another scene from Glencairn Gardens in Rock Hill, SC.

I do love working on paper. It allows me to crop if I find a part I love so much I can separate it from the rest with my handy paper cutter. I did use it on this one. I didn't like half the painting being full of azaleas. I like it better as an accent in the lower corner.

Glencairn Gardens

Glencairn Gardens
Watercolor and Gouache on Arches
3.9"x9.8"

Saturday, I went to Rock Hill, SC, to visit its Glencairn Gardens. It is well known for its azaleas. They were in full bloom and lots of young gals in prom dresses were there using the scene as a backdrop for photos. Can't blame them! It was truly breathtaking. Here's the reference photo:

This was painted from a photo taken at Charlotte artist, Connie Winters' home. Her garden was full of colorful gems. Here is the photo I used for this impressionistic study.

Miss You, Alex

Miss You, Alex
Acrylics on 6"x8"x1.5" Wood Cradle

Wishing my daughter could be home for Easter. She is still at school in Orlando. After that who knows where she will be next. I just miss her. The last time I saw her was at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando. There were so many of these swans. I took lots of pics and the pic I used for this painting seemed perfect to me. But alas, I miss you, Alex.
